To honor the memory of one of its founding members, as well as honorary president, who died on August 2011, and to carry on the research and popularization work that he began, the association AARBA has established in 2012 an annual scholarship in support of basic and applied research in Behavior Analysis.
Prof. Caracciolo is the pioneer of Behavior Analysis in Italy. He was a tireless popularizer, a meticulous epistemologist, an unsettled researcher and writer.
Full professor of clinical psychology at the faculty of Medicine of the University of Milan, he was among the major scholars of research methodology applied to behaviors. He dedicated his entire life to the Scientific Psychology and to its popularization in Italy: without fearing denials, we can state that without him:
today autistic and disabled people would not have any kind of rehabilitation, but only a kind of assistance that would not help them to step forward into manual and social skills;
today doctors and dentists would not have behavioral instruments to obtain patients compliance to treatments;
today occupational safety would be pent-up to the safety of plants and machines, ignoring the major cause of injuries in the industrialized world: the human behavior;
today the actual and the former President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella and Giorgio Napolitano, would not have honoured AARBA with 3 presidential medals for its popularization activity in the international scientific community and in the civil society.
Unitl a few months before his passing, prof. Caracciolo loved to arouse his students’ minds through his smile and congeniality, because he had a wicked sense of humor, sometimes “itching": in the last pages of “Intelligence and its measure" (E. Caracciolo, 1972 – Le Monnier) he wrote
“we keep on saying of measuring intelligence, of finding it fixed, unchained and hereditary. And we try to validate what we say by going back to complex statistical procedures. But nobody has still given a definition of intelligence. We study something, we pretend to study it with scientific methods, we underline its characteristics, we measure its effects, we say that it is innate and hereditary, but we don’t know what it is“.
Another of his editorial merits was having handled the Italian edition of the handbook of “Nonparametric Statistics for The Behavioral Sciences" written by Siegel & Castellan, a milestone for the people that today work on psychological, medical and biological researches.

OBM: applications in the company and private social
by Maria Chiara Sacchetti
In Italy the adoption of Performance Management is at the forefront, despite having produced countless evidences of its effectiveness in building successful behaviors that increase the value of organizations and increase the well-being of workers (Daniels & Bailey, 2014).
The present work, intends to implement the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis to all those behaviors that allow to obtain an organized and orderly work environment, therefore functional to the achievement of more efficient performances and a greater productivity. Two different organizational realities will be involved: a non-profit organization that deals with psycho-educational interventions and research, and a small knitwear production company.

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) for adolescents at risk of mental illness by Valentina Tirelli
Ensuring that the individual has the opportunity to realize himself in terms of work and emotional life is at the center of the aims of an early intervention in mental illness (Marshall, 2011).
School abandonment of young people at risk is frequent, and completing their studies is of fundamental importance (Galvan et al., 2012).
For years in Italy (Meneghelli and Cocchi 2012) the early intervention in Psychosis provides a school support service where professionals intervene directly in school skills. This Pilot Study intends to systematize the teaching of schooling skills for 14 young people, between 15 and 25 years, followed for one year under different conditions of intensity and context of intervention (Private Social and Ausl).
Using applied behavioral science in areas where common sense-based practices are still used would help to disseminate a culture based on efficacy criteria and to promote ABA in new areas.

ACTonHEALTH: Rehabiltation for obesity in Italy by Roberto Cattivelli
Obesity and overweight are in constant rapid growth, becoming a global epidemic. Recent reports speak of 64% of the overweight adult population and a social, economic and health impact of obesity and related diseases increasingly high, with the main rehabilitation programs, although effective in the short term, unsuitable to produce lasting results. From a behavioral perspective an explanatory model is traceable in the scarcity of reinforcing sources related to the healthy habits proposed. The objective of this project is to develop an effective, efficient and sustainable intervention, which continues after the discharge from the rehabilitation in the hospital, predisposing adequate reinforcement contingencies in the natural context, integrating a systematic and continuous measurement, contingent and informative feedback with a set of values-based objectives, shifting them from the results of weight loss to the daily actions connected to a healthy life.
PT / e-learning: recognize the tumors of the oral cavity by Fabio Carannante
Malignant neoplasms related to oral cavities represent 10% of cancers among men and 4% in women across the world population. In Italy, the incidence is 4 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and the disorder occurs in old age, especially if you smoke, you take excessive doses of alcohol and you have poor oral hygiene. This type of cancer alarms the experts particularly, since over 4,500 patients with cancer, 3000 die. The high level of mortality is also due to the difficulty of early recognition. In fact, it is underestimated by specialized personnel as similar to other less serious disorders. The present contribution therefore focuses on the design and delivery of an efficient and effective way of learning via e-learning, such as Precision Teaching, which gives a decisive contribution to the training of specialized personnel (hygienists and dentists) in the recognition of tumors at the oral cavities.

Solutions for the (near) Future: SmartList
of Arianna Gatti
An increasing number of researches in Aviation Safety indicates that the focus of future research programs should move from the enhancement of technological resources to people’s interaction with increasingly complex systems. The safety question no longer concerns aircraft industries that have reached levels of security still unthinkable in other fields. Therefore Behavior-Based Safety interventions are to be considered the most effective, focused on the behavior of the pilot and all the people involved at different levels in flight safety.This result can be reached with the application of Behavior Analysis principles through new generation Information Technologies. The aim of the present experimental project is to test the efficacy of using contingent and specific feedbacks on the optimization of decision making and to build fluency in direction of an improvement in Aviation Safety, through a better technological implementation of low cost/high impact innovative solutions.
ABA in hygiene and safety of health workers and patients
of Gaia Arrigotti
The effectiveness of the application of the scientific method to occupational safety is widely proven. In literature there are hundreds of examples of the application of the Behavior-Based Safety process in different working environment. It is possibile to introduce a behavioral safety process with a wide certainty of successful results both in static and dynamic organizations. The challange of this project is to introduce the protocol in branch with only a few litterature references: the healthcare one. The BBS protocol will be introduced into two wards (odontostomatology and the convalescent ward of oncological surgery) and one operating room, using behaviors related not only to the safety of the health workers, but also to the patients’ safety.
